Nursing Students Reconnect

1971-1972 Nursing Class

Have you kept in touch with your classmates from NDSCS/NDSSS? We would love to hear your stories! Sandy (Barden) Gilbertson recently shared how her Nursing class from 1971-72 has managed to gather regularly through the years. Their journey began in October 1971 in Burch Hall when a group of students joined NDSSS to embark on their careers as Licensed Practical Nurses. While they lived on campus, they were transported daily by their dedicated driver, Earl, to a facility downtown where their classes were held.
After four rigorous months of study, the students were divided and placed in various hospitals for an additional eight months of clinical training. Sandy, along with six other classmates, was assigned to St. Andrew’s Hospital in Bottineau, where she describes their experience as pivotal—encompassing everything from life and birth to loss and death. Over the years, this group of seven has remained connected, sharing their lives and experiences. The group includes Alice (Owens) Reiger, Carmen (Sandness) Solberg, Dorene (Gullickson) Smith, Marsha (Warren) Swensen, Patty (McCrary) Weyrauch, Kathy (Coggins) Musloff, and Sandy (Barden) Gilbertson. Thank you for sharing your wonderful story, Sandy! If you've reconnected with former classmates, we want to hear about it! If you're looking to reconnect, we can assist with that as well. Here's the group in 2020.  Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!
