NDSCS to celebrate Homecoming

The community is invited to join North Dakota State College of Science as the College celebrates Homecoming during the week of September 19-24, 2016 in Wahpeton, N.D. The public can show their Wildcat spirit and enjoy a full line-up of events for students, alumni and community members. The full schedule of events can be found online at ndscsalumni.com/homecoming.

The downtown storefront decorating contest will begin Monday, September 19, with judging taking place throughout Homecoming week. Members of the community can cast votes on the Wahpeton Daily News website, wahpetondailynews.com, for their favorite Wildcat spirit designs that were created by the Wahpeton Elementary peer ambassadors and members of the NDSCS Ambassadors and Women’s basketball team.

Homecoming coronation will take place on Wednesday, September 21 at 8:00 p.m. at the Harry Stern and Ella Stern Cultural Center.

A variety of events will take place on Friday, September 23, including the Catbacker Luncheon at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Homecoming Pep Rally from 12:00-1:00, Culinary Arts foods shows, campus tours, and the NDSCS All-Class Nursing Reunion from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Mayme Green Allied Health Center.

Distinguished alumni and friends will be recognized as Homecoming Honorees during the Alumni & Friends Awards Recognition on Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hektner Student Center. A social will precede the awards ceremony, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Reservations are available by calling 701-671-2247 or online at ndscsalumni.com. This year’s honorees are: Woody Caspers, Alumnus of the Year; the Clifford and Pauline Worner family, Family Tradition Award; Harold (Heb) and Jean Diederick, Wildcats of the Year; Econofoods and Econo Wine & Spirits, Friend of the College award; Ed and Pat Shorma, Parade Grand Marshals; and Shelley Blome, Commitment to Excellence award.

On Saturday, September 24, a 5K Walk/Run for Cancer Awareness will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Mayme Green Allied Health Center. The Homecoming Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Tailgate Party from 12:00-1:30 p.m. at the Earl “Skip” Bute Alumni Stadium.

Athletic events during Homecoming include the NDSCS Volleyball Invitational in the Clair T. Blikre Activities Center, with games to be held on September 23 at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., as well as Saturday, September 24 at 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The Wildcats football team will face Northland Community and Technical College at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 at the Earl “Skip” Bute Alumni Stadium.

Three individuals and two teams will be inducted into the Letterwinners Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 24 in The Alley in the Hektner Student Center. A social will begin at 6:00 p.m., with the recognition banquet to follow at 7:00 p.m. Reservations are available by calling 701-671-2247 or online at ndscsalumni.com. This year’s inductees are: Glen Matthews, Colleen (Letteer) Weltz, Chrissy (Jacobs) Edwards, the 1996 Men’s Football Team and the 1992-93 Men’s Basketball Team.
